Setup WiFi on the Netgear WNR854T

The Netgear WNR854T router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Login To The Netgear WNR854T

Find the WiFi Settings on the Netgear WNR854T

This wireless guide begins on the Basic Settings page of the Netgear WNR854T router. To setup the WiFi section, click the option of Wireless Settings in the left sidebar. This can be found under the main heading of Setup.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Netgear WNR854T

On this new page, first locate the Name (SSID) and enter the new name you have decided to use here. It doesn't really matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information.

Below that is the Channel. Use this drop down list to choose from channels 1,6, and 11.

Now take a look at your Security Options. There are several different options here and we recommend the one labeled WPA2-PSK[AES].

Next is the Passphrase. This is the password you use to access your network. Create a unique password here. Use at least 14 characters and a symbol, number, and capital letter.

That's it, the only thing left to do is save your changes by clicking the Apply button.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
