Setup WiFi on the Nucom R5000UN

The Nucom R5000UN router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Wireless Name

Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.

An important part of securing your wireless network is choosing a strong password.

Encryption

Login To The Nucom R5000UN

To get started configuring the Nucom R5000UN WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Nucom R5000UN

This wireless setup guide begins on the Device Info page of the Nucom R5000UNv2 router.

First, click the option in the left sidebar labeled Wireless.

Then choose Basic beneath that.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Nucom R5000UN

This brings you to the page you see here. Locate the SSID and enter a new name for your network here. It doesn't matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. Learn more in our Wireless Names Guide.

Click the Security option in the left sidebar

This takes you to the page seen above. On this page, the first setting is titled WPS Setup. We strongly recommend not using WPS as it is very weak. Take a look at our What is WPS Guide for more information.

Now scroll down to the section titled Manual Setup AP. The first setting in this section it titled Select SSID. Choose the SSID you just created on the previous page.

Next, choose the Network Authentication. We recommend choosing WPA2-PSK. This is the best option available. Read our WEP vs. WPA Guide for more information.

After that you need to enter a new WPA/WAPI Passphrase. This is the network password and should be created to be strong. We recommend using at least 14 to 20 characters here with at least one number, symbol, and capital letter. Learn more in our Password Guide.

That's it, just click the Apply/Save button.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
