Setup WiFi on the Qwest Q1000

The Qwest Q1000 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Wireless Name

Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.

An important part of securing your wireless network is choosing a strong password.

Picking a WiFi channel is not always a simple task. Be sure to read about WiFi channels before making the choice.

Encryption

Login To The Qwest Q1000

To get started configuring the Qwest Q1000 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Qwest Q1000

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

This is the status page from your Qwest Q1000 router.

This guide begins on the Home page of the Qwest Q1000 router. Click the silver Wireless Setup option. This brings up a whole new set of options in the left sidebar, click the one titled Basic Settings.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Qwest Q1000

This is the wifi setup page from your Qwest Q1000 router.

On this new page, locate the Network Name. This is your network ID. Be creative. It really doesn't matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. To learn more, read our Wireless Names Guide.

Click the Apply button to save your changes.

Go back to the left sidebar and click the option of WPA or WPA2.

This should direct you to the page you see above. 1. Select SSID. Go ahead and select the SSID you just created on the previous page.

2. Set the WPA state. Click the Enable radio button.

3. Select WPA type. For the best security, we recommend using WPA2-Personal. Learn why in our WEP vs. WPA Guide.

4. Select encryption type. Choose AES from the drop-down list.

5. Select a security key type or select Enterprise Network to use 802.1x. Click the option of Use Custom Key/Passphrase.

Finally enter the Key/Passphrase. This is the password you use to access your network. Use at least 14-20 characters and one number, symbol, and capital letter. To learn more ideas, read our Password Guide.

You did it, to save your changes, click the option of Apply.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
