Setup WiFi on the Sierra Wireless AirCard 802S

The Sierra Wireless AirCard 802S router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Sierra Wireless AirCard 802S

To get started configuring the Sierra Wireless AirCard 802S WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Sierra Wireless AirCard 802S

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

Let's start this guide on the Home page of the Sierra-Wireless AirCard-802S router. Select the option of Advanced Settings at the top of the page.

This takes you to a new page where you have new options. Select the tab titled Wi-Fi. Then beneath that pick the option of Network.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Sierra Wireless AirCard 802S

You should now be on the correct page to make the necessary wifi changes. First, is the SSID. This is the network ID. It doesn't matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. To learn more, read this guide.

The only other change you may want to make is the Wi-Fi Channel. Just make sure you are using channels 1,6, or 11. To learn more, read this guide.

Select Save when you are happy with your changes.

Now select the Security option at the top of the page.

On this new page, you need to select the security method for your network. For the best security, we recommend choosing what is shown in this screenshot, WPA2-Personal AES. For more information check out this guide.

The last setting that needs your attention is titled Wi-Fi Password. This should be strong. Our recommendation is to use at least 14-20 numbers, symbols, and letters to create this password. For more information on this topic, read our Password Guide.

Select the Save button before you exit.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
