This guide shows you how to reset your Sitecom WLR-5000 router. This is not the same thing as rebooting a router. Unplugging a router from the wall reboots it. This is different from a reset because a reset completely erases all settings from the router.
Warning: Make sure that you fully understand the following before resetting your router. When you reset your router, the following will happen.
- The router's login credentials are reset to factory defaults.
- All WiFi settings are reset, including network name and password.
- All ISP settings will reset to default, and you may have to contact your ISP.
- Any port forwards, firewall settings, or parental controls that you have configured will be removed.
A router reset is the last step you should take in recovering your router's password. Make sure that you have tried to recover your router password using our Router Password Finder first.

Recover Password in Sitecom WLR-5000
Instead of resetting your router back to factory settings, you may want to try running our Router Password Finder first.

Just keep in mind that a router reset should be done as the last resort when you are unable to login to your router.
Reset the Sitecom WLR-5000
There is usually a small reset button located on either the back or the bottom of a router. Look for something that looks like this:
Reset buttons are usually tiny. Yours may look slightly different than this. You might find a pinhole on the back of the router that requires a paper clip to push the button hidden under it.
Watch the front panel lights while you hold the reset button down for at least 10 seconds. After a few seconds the lights should blink differently. When this happens, the reset is complete. Keep holding the button as long as you want, it will not hurt anything to hold it down too long.
Just don't forget that this will totally reset your Sitecom WLR-5000 router.
Only do this once you have exhausted all other troubleshooting options, such as running our Router Password Finder software, which can recover a lost router password for you.
Login to the Sitecom WLR-5000
Now that you have finished resetting the router, you need to login to the router interface using the default username and password. Just follow our WLR-5000 Login Guide to find all of the information that you need.
Change Your Password
Be sure to change your router's default password after you get logged back in. Since factory passwords are well known, it's a huge security risk to leave your router set to the default. Our Choosing a Strong Password guide talks about choosing a strong password for your router.
Tip: A great place to write your new password down is on a piece of paper taped to the bottom of your router.
