Setup WiFi on the Thomson Alcatel TCW710

  • Select Wireless at the top of the page.
  • Click the option in the left sidebar labeled Basic.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Thomson Alcatel TCW710

You should now be on a page like the one you see here.

  • Change the Network Name (SSID) to something you create. It's not important what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. Check out our Wireless Name guide for more on the subject.
  • Now take a look at the Channel. If you are not on channels 1,6, or 11 you should change it. Use the New Channel drop down list to choose the right channel for your network. To learn why these three channels are important, check out this guide.
  • No other changes need to be made to this page, click the Apply button to finalize these settings.
  • Click the option in the left sidebar labeled Security.

  • At the top of the page there are four different security options, WPA, WPA-PSK, WPA2, and WPA2-PSK. Learn what the differences are in this guide. The option we recommend is WPA2-PSK for home networks.
  • Go ahead and set the WPA/WPA2 Encryption to AES.
  • The last setting that should be changed on this page is the WPA Pre-Shared Key. This is the internet password and should be strong. Use at least 14 to 20 characters and some symbols, numbers, and capital letters in this new password. You can find more ideas in this guide.
  • That's it, hit the Apply button near the bottom of the page and you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
