Reset the Thomson Alcatel TWG850

This article covers how to reset the Thomson Alcatel TWG850 router back to factory default settings. A router reset is very different than a router reboot. A reboot happens every time a router loses power. Resetting a router erases all settings from it and returns it to factory defaults.

Warning: Make sure that you fully understand the following before resetting your router. A router reset will affect the following settings:

  • The router's login credentials are reset to factory defaults.
  • Your WiFi name and password are reset.
  • If your router has any ISP settings they will be removed, and you will have to contact your ISP.
  • Any port forwards, firewall settings, or parental controls that you have configured will be removed.

Since a router reset is such a drastic step, it should only be done as a last resort when you cannot recover your router's password using any other methods. Make sure that you have tried to recover your router password using our Router Password Finder first.

Most routers have a small button on either the back or the bottom. Look for something that looks like this:

Yours may look slightly different, but they are usually tiny. You may need a paper clip to push the reset button.

Keep an eye on the lights on the front of your router while holding the reset button down for about 10 seconds. Notice how the lights on the front of the router are blinking. When the lights do something different, the router is reset. Keep holding the button as long as you want, it will not hurt anything to hold it down too long.

Don't forget, this step will totally reset your Thomson Alcatel TWG850 router back to factory settings.

Login to the Thomson Alcatel TWG850

After you are finished resetting your router, you need to login in using the original factory username and password. Just follow our TWG850 Login Guide to find all of the information that you need.

Change Your Password
