Reset the TP-Link TD-W8951ND

This guide shows you how to reset your TP-Link TD-W8951ND router to factory default settings. A router reset is very different than a router reboot. Unplugging a router from the wall reboots it. This is very different from a reset, which erases a router completely and returns it to factory default settings.

Warning: Proceed with caution; resetting your router can be a major headache. When you reset your router, the following will happen.

  • The router's username and password are reset to factory defaults.
  • All WiFi settings are reset, including network name and password.
  • If your router has any ISP settings they will be removed, and you will have to contact your ISP.
  • Any firewall settings, parental controls, or port forwards that you have configured will be removed.

Since a router reset is such a drastic step, it should only be done as a last resort when you cannot recover your router's password using any other methods. Make sure that you have tried to recover your router password using our Router Password Finder first.

Reset the TP-Link TD-W8951ND

There is usually a small reset button located on either the back or the bottom of a router. A typical reset button looks like this:

Your reset button may look different, but usually they are very small. Sometimes the reset button is under a pinhole on the back of the router, and you need a paper clip to push it.

Watch the lights on the front of your router and hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds. After a few seconds the lights should blink differently. When this happens, the reset is complete. Keep holding the button as long as you want, it will not hurt anything to hold it down too long.

Don't forget, this step will totally reset your TP-Link TD-W8951ND router back to factory settings.

Change Your Password
