Setup WiFi on the TP-Link TL-MR3220

The TP-Link TL-MR3220 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Wireless Name

Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.

Login To The TP-Link TL-MR3220

To get started configuring the TP-Link TL-MR3220 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the TP-Link TL-MR3220

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

Once you have finished logging into the TP-Link TL-MR3220 you are placed on the Home page.

Look in the left side-bar and choose the link titled Wireless. Beneath that pick Wireless Settings.

Change the WiFi Settings on the TP-Link TL-MR3220

You are now on the Wireless Settings page. There are two settings we are changing on this page, the SSID and the Channel.

  • The SSID is called the Wireless Network Name on this page. This is your network identification. Make this new name unique to you but avoid personal information. Take a look at our Wireless Name Guide for more on the topic.
  • The Channel may or may not need to be changed. Make sure you are using channels 1,6, or 11. Learn why in this guide.

That's it for this page, just click the Save button near the bottom of the page. Then go back to the left sidebar and click Wireless Security.

On this page:

  • Fill in the circle near the bottom of the page labeled WPA/WPA2 - Personal(Recommended).
  • Use the Version drop down list to choose the best security of WPA2-PSK. To learn how this is your best choice, read this guide.
  • The Encryption should be set to AES.
  • The last setting is called the PSK Password. This is the internet password and should be strong. Use at least 14 to 20 letters, numbers, and symbols in this password. For even more ideas check out this guide.

That's it, your wireless network is now more secure. Go ahead and click the Save button at the bottom of the page.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
