This guide shows you how to reset your TP-Link TL-WDR5620 router. This is not the same thing as rebooting a router. Turning a router off and back on again causes a reboot. A Router Reset completely erases the router and returns it to factory settings.
Warning: Proceed with caution; resetting your router can be a major headache. The following settings will be changed in your router:
- The router's login credentials are reset.
- Your WiFi login, password, and network name are reset.
- All ISP settings will reset to default, and you may have to contact your ISP.
- Any firewall settings, parental controls, and port forwards that you have configured will be removed.
A router reset should be considered the last resort when you cannot log in to your router any other way. Before you reset your router, you may want to try recovering your router password with our Router Password Finder.

Do not do a full router reset until after you have tried every other option to log in to your router.
Reset the TP-Link TL-WDR5620
Usually there is a reset button located on the back or bottom of a router. What you are looking for is something that looks like this:
Yours may look slightly different, but they are usually tiny. You may need a paper clip to push the reset button.
Hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds while watching the lights on the front of your router. The lights on the front of the router should do something different when the reset happens. It is harmless to hold the reset button too long.
Don't forget, this step will totally reset your TP-Link TL-WDR5620 router back to factory settings.

Login to the TP-Link TL-WDR5620

Change Your Password
Do not forget to change your router's default password when you log back into it. Since factory passwords are well known, it's a huge security risk to leave your router set to the default. Our Choosing a Strong Password guide talks about choosing a strong password for your router.
Tip: Put your new password on a post-in note and stick it to the bottom of your router.
