In this article, you will learn how to reset your TP-Link VR2800 back to factory settings. Resetting a router is different than rebooting a router. A reboot happens every time a router loses power. This is very different from a reset, which erases a router completely and returns it to factory default settings.
Warning: Proceed with caution; resetting your router can be a major headache. When you reset your router, the following will happen.
- The router's login and password are reset to factory defaults.
- All WiFi settings are reset, including network name and password.
- All ISP settings will reset to default, and you may have to contact your ISP.
- Any parental controls, firewall settings, or port forwards will be removed.
A router reset is the last step you should take in recovering your router's password. Before you reset your router, you may want to try recovering your router password with our Router Password Finder.

Reset the TP-Link VR2800
On most routers you can find a small button on the back or the bottom labeled reset. This is what a typical reset button looks like:
Your reset button may look different, but usually they are very small. You might find a pinhole on the back of the router that requires a paper clip to push the button hidden under it.
Watch the lights on the front of your router and hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds. Notice how the lights on the front of the router are blinking. When the lights do something different, the router is reset. Keep holding the button as long as you want, it will not hurt anything to hold it down too long.
Remember, this will erase everything you have previously done to this TP-Link VR2800 router.

Login to the TP-Link VR2800

Change Your Password

Tip: After creating this new password, we highly recommend writing this down on a post-it note and attaching it to the bottom of your router for future reference.
