Setup WiFi on the Trendnet TEW-651BR

This guide should begin on the Device Information page of the TRENDnet TEW-651BR router. To change your wireless settings, click the link on the left hand side of the page labeled Wireless. Then beneath that choose Basic.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Trendnet TEW-651BR

You will be changing two settings on this page, the first is titled SSID. This is the network ID and should be changed from the default. While it doesn't really matter what you enter here we recommend avoiding personal data. Take a look at this Wireless Name Guide if you want to learn more about this.

The other setting you may want to change is the Channel. Make sure to use channels 1,6, or 11. If you plan on changing the wireless channel, just uncheck the box labeled Auto Channel and then use the Channel drop down list to pick your channel. Learn more in this guide.

Now click the Apply button to save your changes. Then in the left sidebar click the option of Security.

Use the Authentication Type drop down list to choose the best security for your network. We recommend WPA2. Find out why in this guide.

After setting the security type you should enter a passphrase for your network. This is your internet password and should be strong. We recommend using at least 14 to 20 characters here. If you need more help, take a look at our Password Guide.

Don't forget to save your changes before you exit by hitting the Apply button.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
