  • Make sure your Wireless Status is Enabled.
  • Setup the SSID by entering a new name in the box. This is your network ID and should be unique. It doesn't matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. Check out this Wireless Name Guide for more on the topic.
  • If you want to hide your SSID from anyone looking for available networks, use the Hide SSID drop down box and choose true. Remember this hides your name making it more difficult for people to connect to your network. This is not security it only camouflages your SSID. Someone proficient in computers can still find your hidden network fairly easily.
  • Make sure you are using channels 1, 6, or 11 in the Default Channel menu. Interested in learning more, click this link.
  • Go ahead and leave the Profile where it is.
  • The Encryption is next. We recommend the most secure option, WPA2. To learn what this means, check out this guide.
  • You should then be asked for a Pass phrase. This is the internet password and should be strong. To deter attacks on your network, make this password at least 14 - 20 characters. For more help, check out this password guide.
  • When you are finished, click the Save Changes button.
  • Then click Write Settings to Flash to finalize these settings.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
