This guide shows you how to reset your ZTE MF286C router to factory default settings. This is a much bigger deal than a router reboot. Every time your router loses power it reboots. This is different from a reset because a reset completely erases all settings from the router.

Warning: Proceed with caution; resetting your router can be a major headache. When you reset your router, the following will happen.

  • The router's login and password are reset.
  • Your WiFi login, password, and network name are reset.
  • Your ISP username and password will be reset, and you may have to contact your ISP.
  • Any parental controls, firewall settings, or port forwards will be removed.

A router reset is the last step you should take in recovering your router's password. Before you reset your router, you may want to try recovering your router password with our Router Password Finder.

Reset the ZTE MF286C

On most routers you can find a small button on the back or the bottom labeled reset. Most reset buttons look like this:

Router Reset Button

Even though yours may look slightly different, you need to look for a tiny button. Sometimes the reset button is under a pinhole on the back of the router, and you need a paper clip to push it.

Watch the lights on the front of your router and hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds. Notice how the lights on the front of the router are blinking. When the lights do something different, the router is reset. Do not be concerned about holding the reset button down too long. It will not hurt anything.

Just don't forget that this will totally reset your ZTE MF286C router.

This last step should only be taken if you have tried everything else, such as using our Router Password Finder software, which can recover lost or forgotten router passwords.

Login to the ZTE MF286C

Now that you have finished resetting the router, you need to login to the router interface using the default username and password. You can follow the MF286C Login Guide to find everything that you need to log in.
