Setup WiFi on the ZTE ZXHN H118N

The ZTE ZXHN H118N router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Wireless Name

Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.

An important part of securing your wireless network is choosing a strong password.

Encryption

Login To The ZTE ZXHN H118N

To get started configuring the ZTE ZXHN H118N WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the ZTE ZXHN H118N

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

After you have finished logging into the ZTE ZXHN H118N router you should see the Device Information page. From here if you plan on changing your WiFi settings click the option in the left sidebar labeled Network. Then pick WLAN and finally SSID Settings.

Change the WiFi Settings on the ZTE ZXHN H118N

On this new page pick SSID 1 in the Choose SSID box.

Then in the box titled SSID Name enter a new name for your network. I recommend picking a name with no personal or router specific information. Learn more about your SSID in our How to Change your Wireless Name.

When you have finished changing your network name click the Submit button at the bottom of the page.

In the left sidebar pick the option of Security under WLAN.

On this new page choose the SSID 1 option again next to Choose SSID.

Under that pick the type of Authentication Type you want to use. My recommendation is WPA2-PSK. Learn what this is in our WEP vs. WPA guide.

Next is the WPA Passphrase. It is very important that you create a strong password here. This should be no less than 14 to 20 characters. Learn how to do this in our Choosing a Strong Password guide.

Finally go ahead and change the WPA Encryption Algorithm to AES.

That's it, just don't forget to click the Submit button in the lower right corner of the page.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
