A factory reset puts a Belkin router back to its default settings, including the blank admin password.
Before You Reset
A reset erases your WiFi settings, port forwards and Internet login. Write down your ISP login (PPPoE username and password) if you have one. A restart (power off and on) keeps all your settings.
Method 1: The Reset Button
- With the router on, press and hold the Reset button on the back for 15 seconds.
- Let go. The router restarts with its default settings after a minute or two.
On some older Belkin routers, a short press of 1 to 5 seconds only restarts the router. Hold the button for the full 15 seconds to reset it.
Method 2: Reset From the Web Interface
Log in, go to Utilities > Restore Factory Defaults and click Restore Defaults. On the newer dashboard, go to Advanced Settings > Reset (or Utilities).
After the Reset
- Connect to the default WiFi on the label, or plug in a cable.
- Go to http://192.168.2.1 and log in with a blank password.
- Set an admin password (Utilities > System Settings), set up WiFi and re-enter your Internet settings.
