On this page I will be explaining how to reset the Billion BiPAC 7800DXL router back to factory defaults.

Before I begin let's go over a couple of terms that are easily confused. The first is a reboot. When you reboot you cycle the power to the device. This is done to solve minor problems you may be having with your device. When you reset you take all the settings and return them all to factory defaults.

Warning: This means every setting you have ever changed is erased and reverted back to factory defaults. It's important that you consider the consequences to this before continuing. Please consider the following:

  • The router's main username and password are erased and replaced with the original defaults.
  • The Internet name and password are also erased and replaced with the original factory defaults.
  • If you use a DSL connection you need to re-enter the ISP (Internet Service Provider) username and password. Call your local ISP for this information.
  • Have you ever made any other changes to your router? Have you forwarded any ports? Have you made any parental controls? These are all erased.

As you can see from the image below the reset button is on the back panel. I have circled it in red for you.

While the router is powered on press and hold the reset button for more than 5 seconds with an unwound paperclip. If you don't hold this button down for the entire 5 seconds you end up only rebooting the unit instead of resetting it.

Remember this reset erases every single setting you have ever made to the router. To avoid that you need to exhaust your other troubleshooting options.

Login to the Billion BiPAC 7800DXL

When the reset process is complete you need to login to the router's setup section using the defaults from the factory. If you don't have these readily available you can check out our Login Guide.

Tip: Don't panic if the defaults didn't work. You may not have held the reset button down for long enough.

Change Your Password

The next thing you should do is to change the password. It's never a good idea to leave a password as it's default. Default passwords are meant to be easy to guess (making them terrible passwords). Follow our Choosing a Strong Password guide if you need a refresher on creating strong passwords.

Tip: There are many different ways to keep from losing a password. One of them is to write the new password on a piece of paper and stick it to the bottom of the router.
