Configure your Computer to Have a Static IP Address

Port forwarding the Buffalo WBMR-G54 to your computer can be more reliable if you first configure a static IP address on your computer. We have instructions to setup a static IP address for Windows 7, Windows 8, and a variety of other devices on our Static IP Address Settings page.

Please note that while setting up a static IP address on your computer is optional, it is still a very good idea to go ahead and do it. In the long run it will make your port forward much more reliable.

Login To The Buffalo WBMR-G54

To get started forwarding a port you need to login to your Buffalo WBMR-G54 router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Forward a Port on the Buffalo WBMR-G54 router

Find The Port Forwarding Section of the Buffalo WBMR-G54

This guide begins on the Home page of the Buffalo WBMR-G54. To forward a port, click the link at the top of the page labeled Advanced. This opens a new list of choices on the left side of the page, pick Virtual Server from this list.

Configure the Port Forwarding section of your Buffalo WBMR-G54

Now to forward a port, make the following changes:

On this page, in the large box, under the heading of Category, click the radio button labeled User.

Then, below that, click the Add button.

This takes you to the Rule Management page.

Enter the name of the program you are forwarding these ports for in the box labeled Rule Name. This is only for your future reference.

Next is the Protocol drop down menu. From this menu, choose the type of protocol you want to use while forwarding these ports.

If you want to forward only one port, enter that one port number in the Port Start box, the Port End box, and finally in the Port Map box. If you want to forward a range of ports, enter the lowest number of the range in the Port Start, and the Port Map boxes. Enter the highest number of the range in the Port End box.

Click Apply.

This takes you back to the Virtual Server page.

Select the rule you just created from the Available Rules box.

Then, click the Add > button, which moves them to the Applied Rules box.

Click the Apply button near the bottom of the page.

Congratulations, you did it!

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports on the Buffalo WBMR-G54 you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
