How to Reset the Comtrend AR-5381u

This page shows you how to reset the Comtrend AR-5381u router back to it's original factory defaults. This is not the same thing a reboot. A router reboot cycles the power to the device in order to solve minor behavioral issues you might be having with your router. Where a router reset takes all the settings and returns every one of them back to factory defaults.

Warning: A reset can cause more problems if you are unaware of what it does. Please take the following into consideration before you continue:

• This reset causes the router's main username and password to be reverted back to it's original factory settings.
• The Internet name and password are also reverted back to factory defaults.
• If you have a DSL router you must re-enter the ISP username and password in order to use the Internet again. Call your Internet Service Provider for more information.
• Finally if you have ever made any other changes to your router you need to write these down so you can re-enter them after the reset is complete.

Reset the Comtrend AR-5381u

Use a VPN Instead

Take the router and turn it around so you are looking at the back of it. The reset button should be on the right side of the back panel. We have circled it's location in the image below.

Take the tip of a sharpened pencil or pen and press down on this reset button for about 10 seconds. The time varies but if you don't hold it down for long enough you may end up simply rebooting the router instead of the desired reset.

Please remember this reset erases everything you have ever done to this router. Take time to try other troubleshooting options before you do a reset if you want to try and avoid re-configuring the router.

Login to the Comtrend AR-5381u

Change Your Password

Tip: If the defaults did not work, it's quite possible the router only rebooted. Try holding the reset button down for longer.

Setup WiFi on the Comtrend AR-5381u

Now you need to check on your WiFi settings. The SSID needs to be updated, the Internet password needs to be made and the security settings need to be checked.
