First, on this page, find the SSID. This is the name you give your network so that you can identify it later on when needed. Avoid using any personal information, this may make you more of a target. Learn more by reading our Wireless Names Guide.

Second, is the Channel. Use this drop down menu to choose either channel 1,6, and 11. To learn why you should be using only these three channels, read our guide titled WiFi Channels.

Now, drop down to the Security menu. Select the option of WPA2. This is the most secure option available for home networks. Read our guide titled WEP vs. WPA for more information.

Unfortunately I am unable to see the rest of the options for this page. There should be a box that appears asking for a Pre-Shared Key or Passphrase. This is the password, go ahead and enter a strong password here, at least 20 characters. To learn more about this, read our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Click the green Apply button when you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
