WiFi Terms
Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.
Wireless Name
Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.
Wireless Password
An important part of securing your wireless network is choosing a strong password.
Wireless Channel
Picking a WiFi channel is not always a simple task. Be sure to read about WiFi channels before making the choice.
Encryption
You should almost definitely pick WPA2 for your networks encryption. If you are unsure, be sure to read our WEP vs WPA guide first.
Login To The Dlink DAP-2553
To get started configuring the Dlink DAP-2553 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DAP-2553
If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.
This guide begins one the Device Information page of the Dlink DAP-2553 router. To configure the WiFi settings, click the choice labeled Basic Settings on the left side of the page. Then, below that, pick Wireless.
Change the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DAP-2553
On this new page, use the box labeled Network Name (SSID) to create a new name for your network. This name is only used to identify your network when needed. To learn more about this, read our Wireless Names Guide.
Next is the Channel. Be sure you are using channel 1,6, or 11. To learn why these channels are important, click the link titled WiFi Channels Guide.
Now, drop down to the Authentication. Choose WPA Personal here. To learn why this is the best choice, read our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.
A box labeled Passphrase Settings appears. In the box labeled WPA Mode choose WPA2 Only.
Choose AES for the Cipher Type. AES is the strongest encryption choice for home networks.
Next, enter the PassPhrase. This is the password you use to gain access to your network. This password should be at least 20 characters long. Don't use personal information here or words that can be found in a dictionary. To learn how to create a strong password, read our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.
Click the Apply button and you are finished.
Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings
After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
