Setup WiFi on the Dlink DAP-2590

The Dlink DAP-2590 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Dlink DAP-2590

To get started configuring the Dlink DAP-2590 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DAP-2590

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

Starting on the Device Information page of the Dlink DAP-2590 router, click the link on the left side of the page labeled Basic Settings. Then, under that, choose Wireless.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DAP-2590

You should now be on the Wireless Settings page. The things you may need to change are:

  • The Network Name (SSID) - This is the name you give your network so that you can identify it later on. When creating a unique name, don't use personal information. To learn more about this, click the link titled Wireless Names Guide.
  • The Auto Channel Selection - This needs to be Disabled if you are not on channel 1,6, or 11.
  • The Channel - Be sure you are on channel 1,6, or 11. To learn why it is important to be on one of these three channels, read our WiFi Channels Guide.
  • The Authentication - Use the drop down menu to choose WPA Personal. To learn why this is the best choice for your home security, read WEP vs. WPA Guide.
  • In the box labeled PassPhrase Settings use the drop down menu titled WPA Mode use choose WPA2 Only.
  • The Cipher Type needs to be set to AES. This is considered the strongest encryption for home networks.
  • Finally the PassPhrase - This is the password you are to use to gain access to your network. This password should be at least 20 characters long. We have created a great guide on how to make a strong and memorable password. Check it out at the link titled WiFi Channels Guide.
  • Enter that same password in the box titled Confirm PassPhrase.
  • Click the Apply button when you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
