Setup WiFi on the Dlink DCS-2100+

The Dlink DCS-2100+ router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Wireless Name

Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.

Login To The Dlink DCS-2100+

To get started configuring the Dlink DCS-2100+ WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DCS-2100+

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

To configure the WiFi settings on the Dlink DCS-2100+ internet camera, you begin on the Device Information page. From there, click the option at the top of the page labeled Advanced. Then on the left, choose Network.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DCS-2100+

On this page, scroll down until you come to the section titled WLAN Configuration. Use the box labeled SSID and enter the name you want to use to identify your network. Read our Wireless Names Guide to learn more.

Now find the Channel list and choose the channel of 1,6, or 11. To learn why these channels are important, read our guide titled WiFi Channels Guide.

We recommend updating your firmware to allow for WPA2-PSK. This is the best security available, to learn more about these security options, read our guide titled WEP vs. WPA Guide.

Now find the box titled Pre-Shared Key. This is the password you use to gain access to your network. We recommend using at least 20 characters. We have a great guide on this topic, read our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

That's it, just click the green Apply button before you exit.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
