Setup WiFi on the Dlink DCS-2100

The Dlink DCS-2100 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Dlink DCS-2100

To get started configuring the Dlink DCS-2100 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DCS-2100

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

You begin on the Device Information page of the Dlink DCS-2100 Internet Camera. To configure the WiFi settings, click the Advanced tab at the top of the page. Then on the left, choose Network.

On this new page, find the box titled SSID. This is the name you give your network so that you can identify it later on. When creating this name, don't use personal information. Read our guide on the topic for more information. Wireless Names.

Next, find the Channel drop down list. Use this list to choose from channel 1,6, or 11. To learn why these are important, read our WiFi Channels Guide.

We recommend for security reasons, updating your firmware to allow for WPA2 PSK.. To learn the difference between WEP and WPA, read our WEP vs. WPA Guide.

Once you have upgraded to WPA2-PSK use the box titled Pre-Shared Key to enter the password you want to use to gain access your network. We recommend at least 20 characters. To learn more about this topic, read our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
