How to Reset the Dlink DCS-950

On this page I will show you how to reset the Dlink DCS-950 Internet camera back to the original factory defaults. This is not the same thing as a reboot. When I say reboot I am referring to a cycle in the power to the device. When I use the word reset I am referring to a full restore of all settings. This means every single setting you have ever changed is erased and reverted back to the original factory settings.

Warning: Resetting this camera can be more of a problem for you if you don't understand what settings are reverted and what ones are not. Consider the following:

  • The camera's main username and password are reverted back to original factory settings.
  • Have you made any other changes such as an IP address or a recording schedule? These will need to be reconfigured after the reset is complete.

Use a VPN Instead

This reset begins by the finding the location of the Dlink DCS-950 reset button. This button is tiny and recessed on the back side of the camera. For reference we have circled it's location for you in the image below:

As you can tell this reset button is quite small. Take the end of something sharp like an unwound paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds to launch the reset process. If you don't hold this reset button down for the entire length of time there is a good chance the camera simply reboots instead of resets. This can cause confusion later on.

Remember resetting this camera is a big step and a reconfiguration is necessary afterwards. If you want to try and avoid this we recommend trying other methods of troubleshooting before you decide to go ahead with this reset.

Login to the Dlink DCS-950

Now that you've reset the Dlink DCS-950 camera you'll need to log into it. Do this by using the factory default username and password. If you don't know where to find these, don't worry. We have them listed for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: Defaults not logging you in? It may be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password
