On this page I will be showing you how to reset the Dlink DFL-200 firewall. Before I begin I need to explain the difference between a reset and a reboot. When you reboot something you cycle the power to the device. When you reset something you take all the previously configured settings and return every one of them back to the original factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting this firewall is a big step in fixing a problem. Make sure you completely understand what settings are to be changed and what ones are not. Consider the following:

  • The main username and password of the device are erased and put back to factory defaults.
  • If you have ever changed any other settings on this firewall you need to write them down so you can reconfigure them later on.

Reset the Dlink DFL-200 Firewall

Begin by finding the reset button on the device. In this case it is on the back panel of the device. We have circled it's location for you in the image below.

Take a sharpened object such as pin or unfolded paperclip to press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds. This begins the reset process. If you don't hold this button down for the entire time you end up only rebooting the firewall instead of resetting it.

Please don't forget that every setting you have ever changed on this device is erased. If you want to avoid this loss of information you should try other methods of troubleshooting.

Login to the Dlink DFL-200 Firewall

Now that you've reset the Dlink DFL-200 firewall you'll need to log into it. This is done by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where to get these? Not to worry. We have them listed for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults don't seem to be working try holding the reset button down for longer.

Change Your Password

Once you've logged in we suggest setting a new password. This can be whatever you like, however keep in mind that a strong password is 14-20 characters in length and includes no personal information. For more help take a look at our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Keep from losing your new password by writing it on a note and putting it on the underside of your firewall.
