Configure your Computer to Have a Static IP Address

Port forwarding the Dlink DI-704UP to your computer can be more reliable if you first configure a static IP address on your computer. We have instructions to setup a static IP address for Windows 7, Windows 8, and a variety of other devices on our Static IP Address Settings page.

Please note that while setting up a static IP address on your computer is optional, it is still a very good idea to go ahead and do it. In the long run it will make your port forward much more reliable.

Login To The Dlink DI-704UP

To get started forwarding a port you need to login to your Dlink DI-704UP router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Forward a Port on the Dlink DI-704UP router

Find The Port Forwarding Section of the Dlink DI-704UP

This is the setup page from your Dlink router.

You begin on the Home page of the Dlink DI-704UP router. To forward a port, click the blue tab at the top of the page labeled Advanced. This creates a new set of choices on the left, pick Virtual Server from this new list.

Configure the Port Forwarding section of your Dlink DI-704UP

Now to forward a port, make the following changes:

On this new page, first tick the Enabled radio button.

Next is the Name box. It isn't really important what is entered here, but we highly recommend entering the name of the program you are forwarding this port for.

In the Private IP box, enter the internal IP address of the computer you are forwarding this port to. Clicking the link of What is my IP Address takes you to our guide on how to find your internal IP address for a computer.

Then, in the Protocol Type drop down menu, select the type of protocol you need to use while forwarding this port.

Enter the port number you want to forward in the box labeled Private Port. Enter that same port number in the Public Port box.

The Schedule should be set to Always.

Finally, tick the green Apply checkmark.

That's it, you are finished!

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports on the Dlink DI-704UP you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
