Configure your Computer to Have a Static IP Address
Port forwarding the Dlink DI-764 to your computer can be more reliable if you first configure a static IP address on your computer. We have instructions to setup a static IP address for Windows 7, Windows 8, and a variety of other devices on our Static IP Address Settings page.
Please note that while setting up a static IP address on your computer is optional, it is still a very good idea to go ahead and do it. In the long run it will make your port forward much more reliable.
Login To The Dlink DI-764
To get started forwarding a port you need to login to your Dlink DI-764 router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Forward a Port on the Dlink DI-764 router
Find The Port Forwarding Section of the Dlink DI-764
Beginning on the Home page of the Dlink DI-764 router, click the blue tab at the top of the page labeled Advanced. This creates a new set of choices on the left side of the page. Pick the new option of Virtual Server.
Configure the Port Forwarding section of your Dlink DI-764
Now to forward a port, make the following changes:
Now you are on the correct page to make a forwarded port.
- Tick the radio button of Enabled.
- Enter the name of the program in the box labeled Name. This is for your information, so make it something you will remember.
- Next is the Private IP. Enter the local IP address of the specific computer you are forwarding this port to. What is my IP Address is a good guide on how to find your computer's local IP address.
- Use the Protocol Type drop down menu to choose the type of protocol you want to use to forward this port.
- Enter the port number you are forwarding in the Private Port box, and again in the Public Port box.
- Set the Schedule to Always.
- Click the green Apply button.
That's it, you did it!
Test if Your Ports are Open
Now that you have forwarded ports on the Dlink DI-764 you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
