You should now be on a page like the one you see here. Tick the button near the bottom labeled Manual Wireless Network Setup.

This takes you to a new page titled WIRELESS. The first thing you should change is the Wireless Network Name. This is the name you create to identify your wireless network. It can be just about anything you want, just don't use any personal information. To learn more about this click the following link, Wireless Names Guide.

To change the Wireless Channel, first you need to uncheck the box labeled Enable Wireless Channel Scan. Then use the drop down menu titled Wireless Channel to choose the channel you want to be on. Make sure it is channel 1,6, or 11. To learn why you should be using these three channels only, read our Wi-Fi channels guide by clicking this link.

Now drop down to the Wireless Security Mode section. Use the pull-down menu titled Security Mode to choose WPA-Personal. To find out more about this topic, read our WEP vs. WPA Guide.

The WPA Mode should be set to WPA2 Only for the best security.

Set the Cipher Type to AES.

The last thing you need to change is the Pre-Shared Key. This is the password you use to gain access to your network. We recommend at least 14-20 characters with a mix of numbers, letters, and symbols. To learn more about creating strong passwords that are memorable, read our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Finish by clicking the Save Settings button.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
