On this page I will be showing you how to reset the Dlink DIR-632 router back to the original factory defaults. A lot of people confuse a reset with a reboot. In this guide when I use the word reboot I am referring to a cycle in the power to the device. When I use the term reset I am referring to a complete factory restore of all settings. This means anything you have changed in the past is erased and returned to the original factory defaults.
Warning: Resetting a router is a big troubleshooting step and should not be taken lightly. If you are unaware of what settings are changed and what ones are not you could end up with more problems than you started with. Consider the following list:
- The router's main username and password are reverted back to the original factory defaults.
- The Internet name and password are also reverted back to factory values.
- If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP or Internet Service Provider's username and password. You need to call your local ISP for more details.
- Any other settings such as port forwards or IP address changes are erased. Be sure these get reconfigured afterwards.

Use a VPN
Have you considered using a VPN when you connect to the internet? A VPN is a great way to increase your security and anonymity while surfing.
We use and recommend NordVPN because not only is it the fastest VPN, it includes a new feature called Meshnet that makes securely sharing your home network super simple. With NordVPN Meshnet, you can connect to your devices from anywhere in the world, completely secure, over a highly encrypted VPN tunnel.
When shopping for a VPN, make sure that they meet the following criteria:
- Your VPN provider should have a no-logs policy. This means that they do not keep any logs of any kind.
- Make sure that your VPN provider has lots of exit nodes all around the world.
- Check that your VPN will not affect your speed.
- Verify that your VPN provider uses WireGuard as the underlying protocol.
- Many people prefer a VPN provider that is not based in the United States.
This is the list of requirements that we used when we were shopping around for a VPN provider. There are lots of free, shady VPN providers out there that we looked at and dismissed.
Based in Panama, using diskless servers, and with over 6,100 servers in 61 countries, we can safely say that NordVPN satisfies all of these requirements.
Once you've set up your NordVPN account on multiple computers and enabled Meshnet, you can seamlessly access all of your devices as if they were on the same network. You don't even have to log in to your router. It's very simple.
Every time you click on one of our affiliate links, such as NordVPN, we get a little kickback for introducing you to the service. Think of us as your VPN wingman.
The first step in any reset is to know where the reset button is located. On this particular D'link model it can be found on the back panel. Take a look at the image below.
While the router is on, take a straightened paperclip and press down on the tiny reset button for about 10 seconds. This begins the reset process which could take over a minute to complete. If you don't hold the reset button down for the entire amount of time you end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.
Remember resetting this router erases every single personal configuration you have ever made. To avoid this loss you should consider other methods of fixing your problem before deciding to continue with this reset.
Login to the Dlink DIR-632
After successfully resetting the Dlink DIR-632 router you'll need to log into it. Do this by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where to get these? We have them listed for you in our Login Guide.
Tip: If the defaults aren't working for you it might be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.
Change Your Password
Now that you've logged into your router we recommend setting a new password for it. This can be anything you want it to be, however bear in mind that a strong password contains no personal information and is 14-20 characters in length. For more help be sure to visit our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.
Tip: Avoid losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it the underside of your router.
