  1. The Wireless Network Name should be changed from the default name. This is the name that you create so that you can identify it later on. Go ahead and be creative, just avoid personal information. To learn more about this, read our Wireless Names guide.
  2. To change the Wireless Channel you'll first need to uncheck the box labeled Enable Auto Channel Scan. Then, in the Wireless Channel pull-down list, choose the channel you plan on using. Make sure that it is either channel 1,6, or 11. To learn more about why, read our WiFi Channels Guide.
  3. Now find the Security Mode and select WPA-Personal for your network. To learn more about this topic, read our WEP vs. WPA Guide.
  4. Next, set the WPA Mode to WPA2 Only.
  5. Set the Cipher Type to AES.
  6. The last thing you need to do is change the Pre-Shared Key. This is the password you use to gain access to your wireless network. Refer to our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

That's it, just don't forget to click the Save Settings button before exiting.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
