Dlink DIR-835 Port Forwarding Instructions

This page will show you how to setup a port forward on the Dlink DIR-835 router.

Configure your Computer to Have a Static IP Address

Port forwarding the Dlink DIR-835 to your computer can be more reliable if you first configure a static IP address on your computer. We have instructions to setup a static IP address for Windows 7, Windows 8, and a variety of other devices on our Static IP Address Settings page.

Please note that while setting up a static IP address on your computer is optional, it is still a very good idea to go ahead and do it. In the long run it will make your port forward much more reliable.

Login To The Dlink DIR-835

To get started forwarding a port you need to login to your Dlink DIR-835 router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Forward a Port on the Dlink DIR-835 router

Find The Port Forwarding Section of the Dlink DIR-835

Now that you have finished logging into the Dlink DIR-835 router you should see a page similar to the one you see above. To create a forwarded port click the option at the top of the page labeled ADVANCED.

Then in the left sidebar click the option of PORT FORWARDING.

Now to forward a port, make the following changes:

On this new page locate the first Name box that is empty. Then in that box enter the name of the program you are forwarding these ports for. It's not that important what you enter here but we recommend entering something that reminds you of why you are forwarding these ports.

Below that is the IP Address. Enter the IP address of the computer you are forwarding these ports to. For example if you are forwarding a port to run a program smoother on your notebook, make sure to use the notebook's IP address here.

Next you are going to skip over to the Ports to Open. Locate the TCP and UDP boxes. Enter the ports you are forwarding into these two boxes.

Set the Schedule to Always.

Then for the Inbound Filter choose Allow All.

That's it, simply save your changes by clicking the Save Settings at the top of the page.

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports on the Dlink DIR-835 you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
