Setup WiFi on the Dlink DIR-868L

The Dlink DIR-868L router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Dlink DIR-868L

To get started configuring the Dlink DIR-868L WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DIR-868L

You begin on the Internet Connection page of the Dlink DIR-868L router. To configure the wireless settings, click the link in the left side-bar labeled WIRELESS SETTINGS.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DIR-868L

This directs you to the page you see here. Click the link at the bottom of the page labeled Manual Wireless Connection Setup.

Once on this new page, place your cursor in the box labeled Wireless Network Name. This is the name you will create so that you can identify it later on. Don't use any personal information here because any scanning wireless device can see this information. To learn more about this topic, click this link.

The next thing that you can change if you want to is the Wireless Channel. To do this, the box titled Enable Auto Channel Scan should be unchecked. Then in the box titled Wireless Channel select the channel you want to use. Just be sure you are using channel 1,6, or 11. To learn more about this topic, click this link.

Now, scroll down to the Security Mode and choose the WPA-Personal option. This is the best option for home networks. To learn more about the different security options, click this link.

Narrow this choice down even farther with the WPA Mode box. We recommend the option of WPA2 Only.

Set the Cipher Type to AES for the best encryption.

Next is the Pre-Shared Key. This is the password use use to grant access to your network. We recommend using at least 14-20 characters along with a mix of numbers, letters, and symbols. You've done it, all there is left to do is click the Save Settings button.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
