This page covers how to reset the Dlink DNS-321 network storage enclosure. This is not the same thing as a reboot. When you reboot a device you cycle the power to the device. When you reset a unit you take all the settings and return every single one of them back to how they were from the factory.

Warning: This reset is a big step to take when trying to solve a problem you are having with your unit. Careful consideration needs to be taken when resetting this device. Consider the following:

  • The unit's main username and password are erased and replaced with the factory default username and password.
  • If you have ever changed anything on this unit such as FTP server settings or the LAN settings they will need to re-configured after this reset is complete.

Reset the Dlink DNS-321

The first step in a reset is to know where the reset button is located. It is located on the rear panel. I have circled it for you in the image below.

This is the reset page from your Dlink DNS-321 router.

Take an unfolded paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds to begin the reset process. If you don't hold the reset button down for the correct amount of time you may only reboot the device instead of resetting it.

Everything you have changed on this units interface is erased. We recommend trying other methods of troubleshooting before you decide to reset this device.

You will still be able to access the data on your hard drives.

Login to the Dlink DNS-321

After you've reset your Dlink DNS-321 router you should log into it. This is done by using the factory default username and password found in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Once you've logged into your router we suggest setting a new password for it. This can be whatever you like, however keep in mind that a strong password consists of 14-20 characters and includes no personal information. For more help be sure to visit our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Avoid losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.
