Reset the Dlink DSL-3785

This article covers how to reset the Dlink DSL-3785 router back to factory default settings. This is not the same thing as rebooting a router. A reboot happens every time a router loses power. However, when you reset a router you, return it back to its factory default settings.

Warning: Before you proceed, there are a few things you need to know. When you reset your router, the following will happen.

  • The router's username and password are reset.
  • Your WiFi login, password, and network name are reset.
  • All ISP settings will reset to default, and you may have to contact your ISP.
  • All port forwards, firewall settings, and parental controls that you have configured will be removed.

Since a router reset is such a drastic step, it should only be done as a last resort when you cannot recover your router's password using any other methods. Before you reset your router, you may want to try recovering your router password with our Router Password Finder.

Reset the Dlink DSL-3785

Most of the time you can find a small reset button located on either the back or the bottom of a router. This is what a typical reset button looks like:

Your reset button may look different, but usually they are very small. Sometimes the button is under a pinhole, and you need a paper clip to push it.

Watch the lights on the front of your router and hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds. You should notice that the blinking pattern of the lights on the front of the router changes after a few seconds. You cannot hold the button too long, and it will not hurt the router to hold the reset button down for longer than 10 seconds.

Don't forget, this step will totally reset your Dlink DSL-3785 router back to factory settings.

Login to the Dlink DSL-3785

After you are finished resetting your router, you need to login in using the original factory username and password. You can follow the DSL-3785 Login Guide to find everything that you need to log in.

Change Your Password

Tip: Write your new password down on a post-it note and stick it to the bottom of your router.
