  • You must first change the SSID. This is name that will identify your network from the others that are around you. Go ahead and create any name you want here, but don't include personal information as it can be seen by your neighboring network devices. We have created a guide on the subject if you want to learn more about the SSID. Click this link for more information.
  • Next is the Channel. There are three channels that everyone with neighbors should be using. Make sure that you are using channel 1,6, or 11. Change your WiFi channel by unchecking the Dynamic button then choose the appropriate channel from the drop down menu next to Channel. To learn why these three channels are special, read our guide by clicking this link.
  • Below that is the WEP. Please read our WEP vs. WPA Guide. We strongly recommend that you avoid using WEP security. With the technology available today, WEP can be cracked very easily. If you update your firmware version you can allow for a more secure network using WPA2 PSK.

That's it, click the green Apply button in the lower right corner of the page.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
