Setup WiFi on the Dlink DWL-1700AP

The Dlink DWL-1700AP router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

This guide begins on the Home Wizard page of the Dlink DWL-1700AP router. To configure the WiFi settings, click the link in the left sidebar labeled Wireless.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DWL-1700AP

  1. Change the SSID. This is referring to the name you give your wireless network so that you can find it again later. Don't use personal information here but go ahead and have fun with this name. To learn more about the SSID, click this link.
  2. Below that is the Channel. Be sure you are on the Channel of 1,6, or 11. To learn more about how to choose the correct channel, read our guide by clicking this link.
  3. Next is the WEP. This is the type of security you plan on using to secure your network. We highly recommend that you do not use WEP. This is the most unsecure form of network security. Read WEP vs. WPA Guide for more information on the the different security options. Our recommendation is update your firmware version to allow for WPA2-PSK.
  4. Finally, click the Apply button at the bottom of the page.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
