  • Change the SSID to something of your choosing. The SSID is the name you give your network so that you can identify it later on. Go ahead and be creative but avoid personal information, such as names, because this can be seen by others. Learn more about the SSID, by reading our guide titled Wireless Names.
  • If you want to hide this network name you have just created, choose Disable next to SSID Broadcast. Understand that while this may hide your name from scanning wireless devices, a hacker can still find hidden networks fairly easily.
  • Next is the Channel. Make sure you are on one of the three non-overlapping channels of 1,6, or 11. To learn more about this topic, read our guide titled WiFi Channels.
  • Click the green Apply button when you are finished.

There is one other page you should go to. Click the option of Advanced at the top of the page. Then, on the left, in the sidebar, click Encryption.

  • Next is the Passphrase. This is the password you use to gain access to your network. We recommend using at least 14 characters in this password. To learn how to create a strong and memorable password, read our guide by clicking this link.
  • For the best encryption, set the Cipher Type to AES.
  • Click the Apply button when you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings
