How to Reset the Dlink DWL-700AP

On this page we will be showing you how to reset the Dlink DWL-700AP router back to it's original factory defaults. A reset is not the same thing as a reboot. When you reboot a router you cycle the power to the device. When you reset a router you take all the settings and return them all back to how they were when they left the factory.

Warning: When you reset a router you erase all previously configured settings. We recommend trying other methods of troubleshooting first. If you decide you do need to reset you need to first create a list of settings that you have changed in the lifetime of this router. These could include:

  • The router access username and password.
  • The Internet name and password.
  • If this is a DSL router, you need to re-enter the ISP username and password. Call your ISP for the details.
  • Any port forwarding you have done or IP address changes.

Reset the Dlink DWL-700AP

First you need to locate the reset button on the device itself. This particular router has it located on the back panel. Take a look at the image below.

Now, while the router is turned on, take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. This begins the reset process which could take a few minutes to complete.

Tip: Be sure to hold the reset button down for the required amount of time. Pressing and immediately releasing the button may cause a reboot instead of a reset.

Remember this reset is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed on this device. We strongly recommend trying other troubleshooting methods before continuing.

Login to the Dlink DWL-700AP

Once you've reset the Dlink DWL-700AP router you'll need to log into it. This is accomplished by using the factory default username and password provided for you in our Login Guide.

Change Your Password

After you've reset and logged into your router we suggest setting a new password. This can be whatever you want, however keep in mind that a strong password consists of 14-20 characters and includes no personal information. For more help check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Avoid losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the underside of your router.
