First, change the SSID to a name of your choosing. This is the name you use to identify your network. Avoid personal information in this name. To learn more, read our Wireless Names Guide.

Next is the Channel. This is the channel you use to transmit your data. Make sure you are using channel 1,6, or 11. These channels are non-overlapping, and won't cause as much interference. To learn more about this, read our WiFi Channels Guide.

This router uses WEP Encryption. This is an extremely weak form of security. With the right program a hacker can crack this within minutes. We strongly recommend that you update your firmware to allow for a much more secure form of encryption, such as WPA2-PSK. Read our WEP vs. WPA Guide for more info.

When you have finished, click the green Apply button.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
