Setup WiFi on the Dlink DWL-G810

The Dlink DWL-G810 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Dlink DWL-G810

To get started configuring the Dlink DWL-G810 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DWL-G810

Start on the Home page of the Dlink DWL-G810 router. To setup the WiFi, click Wireless at the top of the page.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DWL-G810

On this new page change the SSID. This is referring to the name you give your network so that you can identify it when needed. It doesn't matter what you put in this box so long as you remember it for later. If you want to learn more, read our SSID guide by clicking this link.

Next is the wireless Channel you are transmitting on. Make sure you are using channels 1,6, or 11. If you are interested in learning more, read our WiFi Channels Guide.

This particular firmware version only allows for WEP security. We strongly recommend that you do not use WEP. WEP is an extremely out dated form of security and can be cracked within minutes with the right program. Updating your firmware version will allow for WPA2-PSK which is the most up to date form of security. Read more on this subject by clicking this link.

Click the Apply button when you are finished with all the changes you want to make.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
