On this page I will be showing you how to properly reset the Dlink DWR-113 router back to it's original factory defaults. This is not the same thing as a reboot. When you reboot something you cycle the power to the device. When you reset something you take all the settings and return them all to factory default settings.

Warning: Resetting the Dlink DWR-113 is a big step and shouldn't be taken lightly. Make sure you understand that all settings you have changed during the lifetime of this router are erased and returned to factory defaults. Make a list of any settings you can think of that you have changed in the past. Take the following list into consideration before continuing.

  • The router's main access username and password are erased and returned to factory defaults.
  • The Internet name/SSID and password are also erased and returned to factory defaults.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP (Internet Service Provider) username and password. If you don't enter in the required info you won't be able to access the Internet. Call your local ISP for the details.
  • Have you made any other changes? How about port forwards or IP address changes? Write any possible changes you have made down so you can reconfigure them after the reset is complete.

Use a VPN Instead

Have you considered using a VPN instead of forwarding a port? For most users, a VPN is a much simpler and more secure choice than forwarding a port.

We use and recommend NordVPN because not only is it the fastest VPN, it includes a new feature called Meshnet that makes forwarding a port no longer necessary for most applications. With NordVPN Meshnet, you can connect to your devices from anywhere in the world, completely secure, over a highly encrypted VPN tunnel.

When shopping for a VPN, make sure that they meet the following criteria:

  • Your VPN provider should have a no-logs policy. This means that they do not keep any logs of any kind.
  • Make sure that your VPN provider has lots of exit nodes all around the world.
  • Check that your VPN will not affect your speed.
  • Verify that your VPN provider uses WireGuard as the underlying protocol.
  • Many people prefer a VPN provider that is not based in the United States.

This is the list of requirements that we used when we were shopping around for a VPN provider. There are lots of free, shady VPN providers out there that we looked at and dismissed.

Based in Panama, using diskless servers, and with over 6,100 servers in 61 countries, we can safely say that NordVPN satisfies all of these requirements.

NordVPN is the fastest VPN!

Once you've set up your NordVPN account on multiple computers and enabled Meshnet, you can seamlessly access all of your devices as if they were on the same network. You don't even have to log in to your router. It's very simple.

Begin this reset by finding the reset button. For this particular router model it is located on the front panel. This is unusual for a router, take a look at the image below for the exact location.

While the router is turned on, take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. This starts the reset process. If you don't hold the reset button down for long enough you end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Tip: Remember this reset erases every setting you have ever changed on this device. To avoid this we highly recommend exhausting your other troubleshooting methods first.

Login to the Dlink DWR-113

Now that you have finished the reset you should login using the default values from the factory. If you don't know these we have the default IP address, username and password for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the login defaults didn't work it could be that you didn't hold the reset button down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Once you login you should start by changing the router's default password used to access the router interface. To create a strong password check out our Choosing a Strong Password guide.

Tip: One way to avoid losing this new password is to write it down on a piece of paper and attaching it to the bottom of the device for future reference.
