Setup WiFi on the Dlink DWR-512

The Dlink DWR-512 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Dlink DWR-512

To get started configuring the Dlink DWR-512 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

This wireless setup guide begins on the SETUP page of the Dlink DWR-512 router. Start configuring your wireless settings by clicking WIRELESS SETTINGS on the left hand side of the page.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DWR-512

Begin by making sure the box labeled Enable Wireless is checked.

Then you'll need to set a Wireless Network Name. This can be whatever you like. However, due to security reasons, we strongly suggest avoiding any sort of personal information. To learn more check out our Wireless Names Guide.

Now make sure the Wireless Channel is set to either 1, 6, or 11. To find out why these are the best options read our WiFi Channels Guide.

Following that set the Security Mode to WPA-Personal. Below that be sure that the WPA Mode is set to WPA2 only. This will provide you with the strongest security. Why? Take a look at our WEP vs. WPA Guide to find out.

The Cipher Type needs to be set to AES.

Lastly you'll need to set a Network Key. This is the same as your password and can be whatever you want. However a strong password contains no personal information and is 14-20 characters in length. For more helpful tips be sure to see our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
