How to Reset the Dlink VWR-VR

On this page I will be showing you how to properly reset the Dlink VWR-VR router back to how it was when it left the factory. This is not the same as a reboot. When you reboot a router you cycle the power to the unit. When you reset the router you take all the settings and return them all to how they were from the factory. This means every setting that has been changed is erased and replaced with the factory default values.

Warning: Resetting a router is a big step and should not be taken lightly. We recommend making a list of all the settings you may of changed in the past. Settings you need to consider are:

  • The router's main access username and password.
  • The Internet name and password.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP (Internet Service Provider) username and password. Call your local ISP for the details.
  • Have you ever forwarded a port on this router? Have you ever changed any IP addresses? These all need to be reconfigured.

Reset the Dlink VWR-VR

First, do you know where the physical reset button is located on the outside of this Dlink VWR-VR router? This tiny little button/hole is located on the back panel. Take a look at the image below for a more exact location.

Second, take a straightened paperclip and while the router is turned on press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds. This starts the reset process which can take a couple of minutes. If you only press and release this button you may end up rebooting the device instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Don't forget that this reset erases every single setting you have ever changed on this device. We highly recommend that you try other methods of troubleshooting before you continue.

Login to the Dlink VWR-VR

Once you've successfully reset the Dlink VWR-VR router you'll want to log into it. This is done by using the factory default username and password listed for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: Defaults not working for you? It could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Following that we recommend setting a new password for your router. Bear in mind that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. Tip: Keep from losing your new password by writing it on a slip of paper and taping it to the bottom of your router.
