On this page I will show you how to reset the DrayTek Vigor2860Vn-plus router back to the original factory defaults. A lot of people are confused between the words reset and reboot. When you reboot a router all you are doing is cycling the power to the device. When you reset a router you take all the settings and return them all to factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting this router is a big step and should not be taken lightly. It is a good idea to make a list of any settings you have changed in the past. The following should be in your list.

  • The router username and password.
  • The Internet name and password.
  • If you have a DSL router you are resetting you need to re-enter the ISP or Internet Service Provider username and password. This information can be found by calling your local ISP.
  • If you have made any other changes in this device you need to write them down.

While the router is on, take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 5 seconds until the ACT light begins to blink faster than before. If you don't hold this button down for long enough you end up only rebooting the device instead of resetting it.

Don't forget that this reset erases every single setting you have ever changed on the device. We recommend trying other methods of troubleshooting before you decide to reset.

Login to the Draytek Vigor2860Vn-plus

Now that you've successfully reset your DrayTek Vigor2860Vn-plus router you'll need to log into it. This is done by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where to find these? We have them listed for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

After you've logged into your router we recommend setting a new password for it. This can be anything you want it to be, however keep in mind that a strong password is 14-20 characters in length and includes no personal information. For more help check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Avoid losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and putting it on the underside of your router.
