On this page I will be showing you how to properly reset the Edimax AR-7265WnA router back to it's original factory defaults. A lot of people don't know the difference between a reset and a reboot. In this guide a reboot means you are cycling the power to the unit. In this guide a reset means a complete factory restore of all settings you have changed.

Warning: A reset has consequences. Everything you have done to make this router personal to you is erased. You need to reconfigure the device afterwards. Things you must consider before you continue are:

  • The router's main username and password are reverted back to factory defaults.
  • The Internet name and password are reverted back to factory defaults.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP or Internet Service Provider username and password. Call your ISP for the details.
  • Have you ever forwarded a port or changed an IP address. Write these down too.

Reset the Edimax AR-7265WnA

Do you know where the reset button is located? I have found an image of the Edimax AR-7265WnA back panel and circled it's reset button for you in red.

router reset factory settings
This is the reset page from your Edimax AR-7265WnA router.

This button is more like a pinhole to avoid accidental resets. While the router is on, take a straightened paperclip or maybe pencil tip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. If you don't hold this button/pinhole down for long enough you might end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it.

Be careful a reset like this one erases every single setting you have ever changed on your device. Try other ways of fixing your problem before you continue with this reset.

Login to the Edimax AR-7265WnA

After you've successfully reset the Edimax AR-7265WnA router you'll need to log into it. This is done by using the factory default username and password listed for your use in our Login Guide.

Tip: Defaults not logging you in? It might be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Now that you've logged into your router we recommend setting a new password for it. Bear in mind that this password only protects your router settings, not your wireless network. Still, setting a strong password is always a good idea. For help in doing so be sure to visit our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Avoid losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.
