Here on this page I will show you how to reset the Edimax BR-6104K router back to factory defaults. A lot of people don't know the difference between a reset and a reboot. When you reboot a router you simply cycle the power to the device. When you reset a router it erases every single setting you have ever changed during the lifetime of the device.

Warning: Don't reset this router unless you have tried other methods of fixing your problem. Things to consider before continuing are:

  • The router's main username and password are reverted back to factory defaults.
  • Have forwarded any ports or changed IP addresses? These are completely erased and need to be re-entered after the reset is complete.

Reset the Edimax BR-6104K

I have circled the reset button in the image below. As you can see this reset button is more of a pinhole than a button. When resetting it you need to use a straightened paperclip or similar object.

This is the reset page from your Edimax BR-6104K router.

Take your small sharp object and press down on this button/pinhole for at least 10 seconds. Less than that and it will simply reboot or restart the router. This is not what you want to do. Make sure to hold the reset button down for an entire 10 seconds.

Don't forget a reset WILL erase every single setting you have ever changed on this device. We strongly recommend that you try other ways of fixing this problem before continuing.

Login to the Edimax BR-6104K

After resetting the Edimax BR-6104K router you'll need to log into it. This is accomplished by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where to get these? We have them provided for your use in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't working for you it might be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Once you've reset and logged into your router we recommend setting a new password for it. This can be anything you want it to be, however keep in mind that a strong password consists of 14-20 characters in length and includes no personal information. For more help be sure to check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Keep yourself from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.
