How to Reset the Edimax BR-6214K

If you are having trouble with the Edimax BR-6214K router and can't access the router user interface you may need to reset it back to the original factory defaults. In this guide:

A reboot means a cycle in the power to the device.

A reset is a complete factory restore of all settings. Every setting you have ever changed is erased and returned to how it was from the factory.

Warning: Make sure this is really what you want to do before you continue. You need to reconfigure the Edimax BR-6214K router afterwards. Is there any other possible option to solving your problem? Have you tried other common Edimax passwords?

So you have tried everything you can think of and still can't login to the Edimax BR-6214K router. First we recommend making a list of any settings you may have changed in the past. Some of the commonly changed settings are:

  • Router interface username and password.
  • Port forwards
  • IP addresses
  • DNS servers

Turning the router around so you are looking at the back panel, locate the reset button. I have circled it's location for you in the image below.

While the router is on, take the end of a sharpened pencil or straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. If you hold it down for less than 5 seconds you may end up only rebooting it so be aware.

We highly recommend trying other methods of troubleshooting before you decide to reset this router. This reset erases all personal configurations and returns them all to factory defaults.

Login to the Edimax BR-6214K

Now that you've reset the Edimax BR-6214K router you'll need to log into it. This is done by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where to find these? We have them listed for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Following that you'll need to set a new password for your router. This can be anything you like, however keep in mind that a strong password is 14-20 characters in length and includes no personal information. For more help be sure to check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Avoid losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the underside of your router.
