On this page I will be explaining how to reset the Eminent EM4412 router back to factory defaults. A reset like this one is not the same as a reboot. When you reboot a router you cycle the power to the unit. When you reset a router you take all the settings and return them all to factory defaults.
Warning: Resetting this router is a big step and should not be taken lightly. Consider the following:
- This reset wipes the router username and password from the router and returns it to factory defaults.
- All WiFi information you changed such as name and password are erased and returned to how they were before you got it.
- If you happen to be resetting a DSL router you need to enter the ISP Internet Service Provider username and password in order to use the Internet again. Call your local ISP for the details.
- If you have made any other changes to the router you need to write these down as well. This could include port forwards, IP addresses, DNS servers...

Use a VPN Instead

You now need to locate the reset button on the back panel of the device. For more of an idea of where it is, check out the image below.
With the router powered in, take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. This initiates the reset process. Make sure you hold the reset button down for the entire amount of time because if you don't you might end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.
Please remember a reset like the one you are about to do is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed on the device. We strongly recommend trying other troubleshooting methods before you continue with a reset.
Login to the Eminent EM4412
Once you've reset the Eminent EM4412 router you'll need to log into it. This is accomplished by using the factory default username and password. Don't know where you can find these? We have them listed for your use in our Login Guide.
Tip: If the defaults aren't working for you it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.
Change Your Password
Following that we suggest setting a new password for your router. Remember that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. All the same, setting a strong password is always a good choice. For help with this be sure to check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.
Tip: Keep yourself from losing your new password by writing it on a slip of paper and taping it to the bottom of your router.
