The Energy Imports VB204W router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

An important part of securing your wireless network is choosing a strong password.

Picking a WiFi channel is not always a simple task. Be sure to read about WiFi channels before making the choice.
Encryption
You should almost definitely pick WPA2 for your networks encryption. If you are unsure, be sure to read our WEP vs WPA guide first.
Login To The Energy Imports VB204W
To get started configuring the Energy Imports VB204W WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Energy Imports VB204W
If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.
Now that you have finished logging into the Energy Imports VB204W router you should see a page like the one above. If you need to change your router's wireless settings click the option at the top of the page labeled Setup.
New options appear in the left sidebar. Choose the one titled 2.4G Wireless. Then under that pick Wireless Basic.
Change the WiFi Settings on the Energy Imports VB204W
On this page the very first thing that you need to do is make sure there is a check-mark in the Enable Wireless box. This turns your wireless on.
Now in the box titled SSID, enter a name for your network. This name can be just about anything you like but you should avoid personal information or router specific information. Learn all about what an SSID is in our guide titled wireless names.
If you feel you need to change your Wireless Channel this page is the one you want. Near the bottom is the wireless Channel drop down list. Simply pick the channel from the list. We recommend using channels 1,6 or 11. Learn more in our WiFi Channels guide.
When you are finished click the Apply button to save your changes.
The next page you will go to is the Wireless Security page. You can find that link in the left sidebar.
The first setting on this page is the Wireless Security Mode. This is an important part of the security. Learn all about it in our WEP vs. WPA. The strongest and therefore the best option is WPA2 only.
In the WPA Mode drop down list choose the option of Personal.
Below that is the Encryption Mode. The best option here is AES.
Finally the last setting that needs your attention is the Pre-Shared Key. This is the Internet password and should be strong. We recommend using at least 14 characters here. For help on this topic check out our Choosing a Strong Password guide.
That's it. Simply click Apply before exiting this page.
Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings
After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
